841 Chestnut Street Philadelphia, PA 19107 EPA Permit No. PA0025625 Reoortable Occurrence
Dear Sir:
l As required by the EPA Permit No. PA0025625, the following information is provided in regard to a reportable occurrence at Beaver Valley Power Station.
EPA discharge 008 exceeded the allowable monthly average of 30 mg/l for total suspended solids during February 1996. The February monthly average was 42.8 mg/1. There were 2 individual measurements taken, neither of which exceeded the maximum allowable value of 100 mg/1. The second measurement of the month was obtained on February 16, 1996. EPA discharge 008 is located in the cooling tower pumphouse in close proximity to the Ohio River. On January 20, 1996 the Ohio River flooded, cresting at 693 feet. This upset condition continued throughout the month of February, resulting in continued high levels of total suspended solids.
A subsequent sample at discharge 008, obtained in early March contained total suspended solids of 12.46 mg/1, indicating significant improvement. We expect this improving trend to continue.

The next samples, obtained on February 21 and March 7 measured 9.00 and 8,61. The OWS collects and treats various building drains from the Unit No.
2 diesel generator building. Extensive investigation failed to provide a cause for this event.
