EPA Permit No. PAQO25615 Rencrtable Occurrence
Dear Sir:
As required by the EPA
'ermit No.
PA0025615, the following information is provided in regard to a reportable occurrence at Beaver Valley Power Station.
Discharge
- 101, Unit One Chemical Waste Sump, exceeded the daily maximum specification of 100.00 mg/l Total Suspended Solids (TSS) on July 3,
1991 when the daily maximum was 112.80 mg/1.
This high value also caused the monthly average TSS value of S3.52 to exceed the monthly average TSS Specification of 30.00 mg/1.
The July 3 sample was collected directly following a regeneration l
of the cation demineralizer and was abnormally high in precipitated iron.
A follow-up sample was collected on July 5, with a TSS value of 23.30 mg/1.
Although operation of the sump continued through the month without further occurrence, plant maintenance is inspecting regenerant hold tanks for excessive corrosion which may be i
contributing to the suspended solids.
f I
Since this event was limited to a single batch discharge (17,000 gallons) of the Chemical Waste Sump, then no significant environmental harm or impact is expected.
