Water Permits Branch Water Management Division 841 Chestnut Street Philadelphia, PA 19107 EPA Permit No. PldO25615 Reportable Ocqurrenqq Dear Sir As required by the EPA Permit No. PA0025615, the following information is provided in regard to a reportable occurrence at Beaver Valley Power Station.

Discharge 101, Unit One Chemical Waste Sump, exceeded the daily maximum specification of 100.00 mg/l Total Suspended Solids (TSS) on August 5, 1991 when the daily maximum was 171.92 mg/1. This high value also caused the monthly average TSS value of 52.71 to exceed the monthly average TSS Specification of 30.00 mg/1. -

The August 5 sample was collected directly following a regeneration of the domineralizers and was high in precipitated and colloidal iron. A maintenance inspection has revealed a damaged protective liner in the regenerant storage tank (station mark number WT-TK-24A) allowing corrosion to occur and affect offluent quality.

There have been no more out of specification results since the isolation of this tank which will be repaired or replaced before being returned to service.

The duration of outfall 101 discharge on August 5, 1991 was limited to 15 minutes with a total volume of 3000 gallons. Further samples collected August 13, 20, and 31 measured 35.80 mg/l 18.80 mg/l and 18.13 mg/l respectfully. No significa~nt environmental harm or impact is expected due to the low volume of this discharge.
