DUKE POWER COMPANY ) Docket Nos. 50-369

) 50-370 (William B. McGuire Nuclear )

Station, Units 1 and 2) )

AFFIDAVIT OF W. H. RASIN Comes now the affiant W. H. Rasin, and says:

During its review of the testimony regarding temperature effects on polyurethane foam, the Staff noted that construction drawings reflected that a 1/4" layer of fiberglass insulation identified as "glastrate" (18#/Ft3; K=0.30) made by Owens-Corning, existed between the wall of the downcomer portion of the air handling unit duct and the riser portion of the duct at McGuire.

Duke has determined, both by an inspection of the con-struction drawings and actual visual examination of the air handling ducts at the station, that this fiberglass insulation, "glastrate" made by Owens-Corning, is in place. This layer of insulation was not taken into account in my heat transfer calculations regarding temperature effects in polyurethane foam. If the insulation were taken into account, it would add further conservatism to my calculations.

Duke has also determined by actual visual examination of the connections between adjoining ducts that the inverse "U" shaped member covering the keystone is not precisely as 810.414056Y

described in Staff Exnibit 0, which was a Sequoyah document.

See Attachment 1, Staff Exhibit 0, wherein this vertical member has been identified by Applicant as "X". At McGuire this vertical member is extended along the downcomer duct toward the ice condenser; upon reaching the inside walls of the duct this member forms a right angle so as to parallel the inside wall of duct for approximately 1 inch. See Attach-ment 1, wherein the McGuire configuration has been identified by Applicant as "Y". The "U" shaped member was not taken into account in my heat transfer calculations regarding temperature effects on polyurethane foam. If the vertical member was taken into account, it would add further conserva-tism to my calculations.
