P1,RECTORS 7 Statement for the Nuclear Regulatory Commissi'n C5

,,-. ,p17_e/ On Proposed Relicensing of the Indian Point Plant*

This is written on behalf of the Board of Federated Conservationists of Vi, . ji. Westchester County (FCWC). FCWC is a 40-year old environmental coalition of hundreds of individual and organizational members representing several thousand FREDERICKW tV. URNER Westchester County residents. We are dedicated to protecting Westchester County's natural resources.

CAROLYN CUINNINGHAM We have expressed our concerns about Indian Point a number of times over the easur..r C Tr LAI rRENC.E4-)VCONF1I.'I.. years, including at a hearing before your very Commission in the 1980's to object to the inadequacy of the emergency evacuation plan for Indian Point.

JAN BLAIRE We have been told that many of our reasons for vehemently objecting to the ROBERT CAROL relicensing of these nuclear plants are "outside the scope" of your September 26, LISA COIELAND HhRBERT FOX 2007 hearing. We strenuously object to this narrowing of the scope to eliminate t.WERT Vt!NCV1* many legitimate concerns that should be weighed in your decision to relicense.

MAI.VREIEN MORGAN M1NT-ROI' T. PARKER We support the suit to try to make you broaden your review and also support the SIHAARON PICKE'Il call of the Westchester County executive for an independent evaluation of the OREON SANPLIER N.)TRIID SPERO safety of these plants as well as the concerns of our congresspersons.

ROBERTA VIEIINIK One issue that FCWC raised when the plants were first built is their proximity to TtCHNICAL ADISOR.S the Ramapo fault that crosses the Hudson River. Although we have not heard this issue raised recently, the risks involved in this location near the fault line ROBEIcrHIA. BONTE D)R.RAUL C.ADENAS should also be carefully considered before allowing the plants to operate for DR. BARBARA L. DEX"TER another 20 years.

DR. JOHN hi. FLYNN jOH1INA. lI*.UBACH Since we are told that our legitimate concerns (such as the entirely inadequate DR. MICHAEL W. KLEMENS RHODA KCoRNREICIA response and evacuation capability, risk from terrorist attack, etc.) will not be RICT LARD LEWIS RICHARD L C'TVINGER heard, we conclude with the plea that the plants NOT be relicensed, which-we NICHOI.AS A. ROBINSON believe indefensibly increases the risk to all Westchester residents and to the DR. JAMES ITITER

ýTANI FY \%VI-CIKR entire region.

Thank you for accepting our statement and making it part of the record.
