LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 -- Consultation about thermophilic organismsHi Gregg-As we discussed by phone today, Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon) has plans to apply to the Nuclear RegulatoryCommission (NRC) for renewal of the oPerating licenses for LaSalle County Station (LaSalle), Units 1 and 2. The NRCrequires that the license renewal application include an environmental report assessing potential impacts from licenserenewal activities, including continued operations. One such impact is the "impact of the proposed action [licenserenewal] on public health from thermophilic organisms in the affected water" [10 CFR 51.53(c)(3)(ii)(G)]. Typically, aspart of our assessment of this type of impact at our nuclear plants seeking NRC license renewal, Exelon will contact theresponsible State agency by letter to describe the license renewal process and request comments from the agency aboutany adverse public health effects that may be related to plant operation. As we also discussed, Exelon previously sought input on this issue from the Illinois Department of Health as it relates torenewal of the NRC operating licenses for the Byron and Braidwood Stations. As an example of the type of letter wewould send to the responsible agency regarding LaSalle, I am attaching the letter that we sent to Illinois DOH aboutBraidwood. Also, as an explanation for why I contacted you, I am attaching the response letter we received from IllinoisDOH, which applied to both Byron and Braidwood.1 I will appreciate any help you can provide in identifying the appropriate Illinois agency with which we should consultregarding public health impacts from thermophilic organisms in waters affected by the LaSalle cooling water systemdischarges (Illinois River).Thank you for your time and assistance.Regards,o4ra,z.-Nancy L. LaSalle County Station Units 1 and 2 -- Consultation about thermophilic organisms Hi Gregg-As we discussed by phone today, Exelon Generation

Company, LLC (Exelon) has plans to apply to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for renewal of the oPerating licenses for LaSalle County Station (LaSalle),

Units 1 and 2. The NRCrequires that the license renewal application include an environmental report assessing potential impacts from licenserenewal activities, including continued operations.

One such impact is the "impact of the proposed action [licenserenewal]

on public health from thermophilic organisms in the affected water" [10 CFR 51.53(c)(3)(ii)(G)].

As an example of the type of letter wewould send to the responsible agency regarding

LaSalle, I am attaching the letter that we sent to Illinois DOH aboutBraidwood.

Also, as an explanation for why I contacted you, I am attaching the response letter we received from IllinoisDOH, which applied to both Byron and Braidwood.

1 I will appreciate any help you can provide in identifying the appropriate Illinois agency with which we should consultregarding public health impacts from thermophilic organisms in waters affected by the LaSalle cooling water systemdischarges (Illinois River).Thank you for your time and assistance.
