Reference 1 transmitted a request for relaxation of the requirements contained in Order EA-12-051 which was immediately issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to Union Electric Company (dba Ameren Missouri) on March 12, 2012 for Callaway Plant. On April25, 2014, a phone call was held between the Callaway Plant and the NRC to discuss the Reference 1 submittal.

The purpose of this letter is to provide additional information requested during the phone call. Callaway Plant is requesting relaxation from NRC Order EA-12-051, specifically Attachment 2, Section 1.6 which discusses power supplies for spent fuel pool level instrumentation (SFPI). The Order states that permanently installed instrumentation channels shall be powered by a separate power supply, independent of the plant's ac and de power distribution systems, such as portable generators and replaceable batteries.

Portable generators will be utilized to recharge the batteries, and are a part of Callaway's FLEX strategies per NRC Order EA-12-049. By Reference 2, Callaway obtained schedule relaxation for NRC Order EA-12-049 regarding FLEX strategies. With this relaxation, Callaway's FLEX strategies will not be fully implemented until Spring of 2016. Therefore, in accordance with the provisions ofSection IV of the Order, Ameren Missouri requests relaxation of the requirement described in NRC Order EA-12-051, , Section 1.6.
