(3) The sprinkler system in the Diesel Generator Rocms, the sprinklers above the steam driven auxiliary feedwater pu=p, and the deluge system in the persennel corridor between fire areas 6 and 20 shall be demonstrated to be operable:
- a. At least once per 18 months:
- 1. By visual inspection of the spray / sprinkler headers to verify their integrity.

- b. At least once per 3 years by perr e-ing an air flow test through each open head spray / sprinkler header and verify-ing each open head spray / sprinkler nozzle is unobstructed.
(4) Each fire hose station designated in Table 2-8 shall be veri-fled to be operable:
- a. At least once per conth by visual inspection of the station to assure all equipment is available and the system pres-sure (as determined at the jockey pump pressure gauge) is within limits.
- b. At least once per 18 months by rencving the hose for in-spection and repacking and replacing all gaskets in the couplings that are degraded.
- c. At least cnce per 3 years by:
- 1. Partially opening the hose station valves to ve rify valve operability and no blockage.

DISCUSSION In accordaace with Sections 3.1. 5, 3.1. 27, and 3.1. 28 of the Cc==ission's Safety Evaltation Report (SER) for the Fort Calhoun Station fire protection program, the C=aha Public Pcver District vill have fire water suppression systens installed, as noted in the proposed specifications, in Dece=ber, 1979 The proposed specifications specify limiting conditions for operation and survei'_lar.ce measures for:
- fire hose stations to be installed in the auxiliary building.
-
sprinkler system located above the steam driven auxilicry feed-water pump.
- deluge system located in the persennel corridor between fire areas 6 anc 20.
' lao proposed specifications are similar to model specifications re-e ived frca che Cc==ission in a letter dated June 17, 1977, and are identi-cal in content to those specifications for other fire water vrppressien sys-tems , approved by the Commission in AmenC=ent No. 38 to Operat.ing License DPR-40. 7nese specifications, if i=plemented, would not be ini=ical to the health and safety of the public or reduce the level of safety at the station.
