Thisprocedure providesinstructions tobefollowedintheeventthatleakagefromtheReactorCoolantSystemexceedsthecapacityoftheoperablechargingpumps.Mhenconditions intheReactorCoolantSystemdegrade'to thepointthataLimitingSafetySystemSettingisapproached theReactorProtective System.willinitiateareactortrip,makingthereactorsubcritical.

Thisvillstoptheproduction ofpowerinthecore.Coolingofthecore,however,mustcontinuetoremovetheconsiderable decayheatthatremains.TheSafetyInfection Systemautomatically providesaflowofsubcooled watertothecorefordecayheatremoval.Failuretokeepthecorecoveredwillresultinoverheating ofthefuel,failureofthecladding, andareleaseofgrossamountsoffissionproductstothecontainment atmosphere.

ThespectrumofbreakswhichwouldcauseaLOCAisfromapproximately at.2inchdiameterbreakuptoadouble-ended hotlegrupture.Foranexample:Analysisshowthattheflowfromanunrestricted
