D. Inadvertent operation of the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be benign towards containment integrity and opera-tional safety of the plant. | |||
E. The Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be reliable and be able to withstand the effects of its own operation. | |||
3.0 DESIGN REQUIREMENT The basic design and performance parameters for the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be as follows: | |||
A. The hydrogen ignitors or glow plugs shall be distributed throughout the drywell, containment open volumes and sub-compartments. | |||
4 B. Enclosed areas (sub-compartments) within the contain-ment shall each have redundant ignitors which are powered from separate ESF distribution panels. | |||
C. Fcr open areas in the drywell and containment volumes, the following location criteria shall be used: | |||
: 1. A maximum distance of sixty (60) feet will exist between the ignitors of a given electrical power division. | |||
i i. A maximum distance of thirty (30) feet will exist - | |||
between ignitors of the two different electrical power divisions. | |||
iii. A tolerance, consisting a radius of three (3) feet, radius for the above location criteria shall be used to acccmmodate ignitor support and power-ing details. | |||
D. The ignitor assemblies shall be supported to withstand, without loss of function, the loads associated with seismic and hydrodynamic events. In addition, thermal and pressure loads due to the cyclic hydrogen burns must also be considered. | |||
E. The Hydrogen Ignitor accemblies located in high-traffic areas shall be adequately guarded against physical damage to ignitor assemoly and personnel physical injury. | |||

December 15, 1982 3.1 DESIC:! LIFE A. All components of the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be designed for 40 years of intermittent operation. The system shall be capable of continuous operation for a minimum of coven (7) days following its manual activation from the control room in an accident condition. | |||
B. The Hydrogen Ignitor System shall perform its safety function immediately after it is manually initiated, and continously for 7 days thereafter tollouing a Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) or a stuck open relief valve. | |||
3.2 TESTI"G Periodic testing of the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be performed during normal plant operation and planned plan: | |||
outages. The testing shall be comprised of the following: | |||
A. During normal plant operation, remote testing of the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be performed to verify operational readinecs of the system. | |||
B. During planned plant outage, glow plug curface tempar-ature will be measured by means of an omegascope (in-frared pyrometer). | |||
3.3 RELI ABILITY /AV AILABILITY/REDUNDA"CY ' | |||
A. The Hydrogen Ignitor System must be available under all plant operating and accident conditions. Redundant components shall be activated concurrently to ensure reliability. | |||
B. The Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be redundant such that no single failure of an active component including power supplies will prevent functioning of the entire system or leave any area unprotected. | |||
3.4 POWER SU? PLY A. The Hydrogen Ignitor Syctem chall be poucred from two Class 12 :ngineered Safety Peaturec (ESF) power distribution panelc. In the event of pouer failure the districu ion panels shall be powered f rom the station diesel generators. | |||

The Hydrogen Ignitor System shall. prevent, by burning, any significant pocketing of hydrogen to minimise the potential of localized hydrogen detonation. D. Inadvertent operation of the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be benign towards containment integrity and opera-tional safety of the plant. E. The Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be reliable and be able to withstand the effects of its own operation. 3.0 DESIGN REQUIREMENT The basic design and performance parameters for the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be as follows: A. The hydrogen ignitors or glow plugs shall be distributed throughout the drywell, containment open volumes and sub-compartments. 4 B. Enclosed areas (sub-compartments) within the contain-ment shall each have redundant ignitors which are powered from separate ESF distribution panels. C. Fcr open areas in the drywell and containment volumes, the following location criteria shall be used:
- 1. A maximum distance of sixty (60) feet will exist between the ignitors of a given electrical power division.
i i. A maximum distance of thirty (30) feet will exist - between ignitors of the two different electrical power divisions. iii. A tolerance, consisting a radius of three (3) feet, radius for the above location criteria shall be used to acccmmodate ignitor support and power-ing details. D. The ignitor assemblies shall be supported to withstand, without loss of function, the loads associated with seismic and hydrodynamic events. In addition, thermal and pressure loads due to the cyclic hydrogen burns must also be considered. E. The Hydrogen Ignitor accemblies located in high-traffic areas shall be adequately guarded against physical damage to ignitor assemoly and personnel physical injury. i P. The ignitor assemblies located in the vicinity of the pool cuell zone shall be capable of operation after exposure to pool water. Also, the ignircrs shall b2 capable of operation during operation of the contain-

December 15, 1982 3.1 DESIC:! LIFE A. All components of the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be designed for 40 years of intermittent operation. The system shall be capable of continuous operation for a minimum of coven (7) days following its manual activation from the control room in an accident condition. B. The Hydrogen Ignitor System shall perform its safety function immediately after it is manually initiated, and continously for 7 days thereafter tollouing a Loss of Coolant Accident (LOCA) or a stuck open relief valve. 3.2 TESTI"G Periodic testing of the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be performed during normal plant operation and planned plan: outages. The testing shall be comprised of the following: A. During normal plant operation, remote testing of the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be performed to verify operational readinecs of the system. B. During planned plant outage, glow plug curface tempar-ature will be measured by means of an omegascope (in-frared pyrometer). 3.3 RELI ABILITY /AV AILABILITY/REDUNDA"CY ' A. The Hydrogen Ignitor System must be available under all plant operating and accident conditions. Redundant components shall be activated concurrently to ensure reliability. B. The Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be redundant such that no single failure of an active component including power supplies will prevent functioning of the entire system or leave any area unprotected. 3.4 POWER SU? PLY A. The Hydrogen Ignitor Syctem chall be poucred from two Class 12 :ngineered Safety Peaturec (ESF) power distribution panelc. In the event of pouer failure the districu ion panels shall be powered f rom the station diesel generators. B. The Hydrogen Ignitor System chall be desianed to operar2 120 VAC 3 101, 60 Ha 1 51. The !!ydr' ogen Ignitor System shall be initiated by man-ual actuation of hand switches (one for each divisional set of f.gn i to r s ) located in the main control room on indication of loss of coolant accident. (RPV Level 1) or stuck open relief valve. The Ilydrogen Ignitor System shall start performing its intended function immediately following its manual activation. D. TRIP /I:TERLCCK: Trip: The 11ydrogen Ignitor Syste.n shall be capable or manual trip.
- 2. The !!ydrogen Ignitor System shall be tripped automatically on loss of power. Restart of the system on restoration of power shall be after manual reset of power loss signal.
Interlech: The Ilydrogen Ignitor System shall be tripped automat-ically on high hydrogen concentration 15% with a manual override. INDICATIO:1: The following indication shall be provided at the main ( control room:

4.0 SAFETY RECUIEE:*.E:1TS & SYSTEM CLASSIFICATION A. T h .2 Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be nuclear safety related. B. The components (distribution panel, contactors, cables ignitor assemblies, etc.) comprising the Hydroger Ignitor System shall be classified as essential. . C. The ccmpsnents comprising the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be Seismic Category I. 4.1 Quality Assurance Design and procurement activities for the Hydrogen Ignitor System shall conf orm to the Sargent & Lundy Quality Assurance Manual. 4.2 Environmental Recuirements The Hydrogen Ignitor System shall be able to withstand the following environment: A. Normal Condition Temperature 150 F (MAX) Pressure -2 to 2 PSIG Relative Humidity 10 - 90". Radiation 7 5x 10 rad (C), G A:'".A
