Make sure Doug et al understand that a COMM is our lowest level of response to an issue and is primarily to capture and communicate operating experience.

I think we should post the COMM now (basically a reiteration of the previous e-mail, the subsequent information on extent of condition, and the pictures) for retrievability and then update when the root cause becomes available. Make sure Doug et al understand that a COMM is our lowest level of response to an issue and is primarily to capture and communicate operating experience.

Eric, Given these responses - should we just wait on the root cause evaluation / more information before trying to post a COMM on this topic. It looks like to me we can afford to wait awhile. We have notified the fuels group and the appropriate group is actively involved based on Omid's response.

As I was typing this- Douglass Pickett provided the update:

"'ve been informed that Watts Bar received a 1.4% power uprate on January 19, 2001 in response to installing Caldon feedwater flow instrumentation and correcting the feedwater flow uncertainty.

Attached are some good photos of the observed damage.

The fuel assembly H03 photos shows the raised J08 fuel pin.

The fuel assembly G45 photos shows the missing gap and small pieces of fuel pellets atop the grid strap."

Do you want to post this info we do have - or wait? Your call, let me know.
