Ladies and Gentlemen:

Progress Energy Carolinas, Inc., now doing business as Duke Energy Progress, Inc. (Duke Energy), hereby requests renewal of the Quality Assurance Program Approval for Radioactive Material Packages, Docket No. 71-0345. The current approval, applicable to the plants listed above, will expire on October 31, 2015.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission RA-14-0018 Page2 Pursuant to 10 CFR 71.101, Duke Energy intends to continue to apply applicable portions of the NRC-approved 10 CFR 50, Appendix B, Quality Assurance Program (QAP) to procurement, maintenance, repair, and use of transportation packages for radioactive materials. All other transportation activities shall be satisfied by the NRC approved programs of the package supplier, as specified in each individual NRC Certificate of Compliance issued to the package supplier.

The description of the QAP was submitted to the NRC by letter dated July 22, 1994 (Reference 1), supplemented by letter dated March 6, 1995 (Reference 2), and approved by the NRC by letter dated April 3, 1995 (Reference 3). The QAP has since been revised pursuant to 10 CFR 50.54(a). The current descriptions of the QAP are maintained as Section 17.3 of the (Updated) Final Safety Analysis Report for each plant.

This letter contains no new regulatory commitments.
