Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC to Hold Virtual Meeting to Discuss 2020 Performance of Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will discuss the 2020 safety performance of the Point Beach nuclear power plant during a virtual meeting to be held June 10.

Point Beach, located in Two Rivers, Wisconsin, is operated by NextEra Energy Point Beach, LLC.

The session is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Central time. The public must call in at 1-800-369-1681, passcode 6785354#, to hear the presentation and to be able to participate during the open portion of the meeting. The visual portion of the meeting will be held online; please review the meeting notice for instructions on meeting participation.

NRC staff responsible for plant inspection and oversight will participate, including the resident inspectors based full-time at the site.

Point Beach operated safely in 2020. At the end of the year, all inspection findings and performance indicators were of very low safety significance, or green. As a result, the plant remains under the NRCs normal level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.

Inspections at Point Beach are performed by two NRC resident inspectors and specialist inspectors from the Region III office in Lisle, Illinois.

The annual assessment letter for Point Beach is available on the NRC website. The current performance information for Unit 1 and Unit 2 is also available and is updated quarterly.
