Viktoria Mitlyng, 630-829-9662 Prema Chandrathil, 630-829-9663 NRC Names New Senior Resident Inspector at the Point Beach Nuclear Plant The NRC has selected Michael Stafford as the new senior resident inspector at the Point Beach Nuclear Plant in Two Rivers, Wisconsin.
Stafford joined the NRC in 2015 as a project engineer in the NRCs Region IV office. He served as acting resident inspector at the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant, Callaway Plant, and Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant. He became resident inspector at the Cooper Nuclear Station in 2017. Subsequently, Stafford served as acting senior resident inspector at the Cooper Nuclear Station and the Wolf Creek Generating Station. Stafford has worked as a headquarters operations officer since 2021. Prior to joining the NRC, he served as a shift test engineer at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Stafford holds a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Ohio State University.
We look forward to Mike joining Region III as the new senior resident inspector at Point Beach. He brings in-depth knowledge of maintenance practices and extensive experience implementing the Reactor Oversight Process. In addition, while serving as a headquarters operations officer, Mike interacted with a wide variety of stakeholders honing invaluable communications skills, which will help him meet the agencys goal of improving public confidence, said NRC Region III Administrator Jack Giessner.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
