NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Region III 2443 Warrenville Road Lisle IL 60532 No. III-10-002 January 20, 2010 Contacts: E-Mail: opa3@nrc.gov Viktoria Mitlyng 630-829-9662 Web site: www.nrc.gov Prema Chandrathil 630-829-9663 NRC NAMES NEW RESIDENT INSPECTOR AT POINT BEACH NUCLEAR POWER PLANT The U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Stephen Burton as the new Senior Resident Inspector at the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant in Two Creeks, Wis, roughly 40 miles southeast of Green Bay.

Most recently, Burton was senior resident inspector at the Kewaunee nuclear power plant located in Kewaunee, Wis. He joined the NRC in HQ as a reactor engineer in 1996.

Prior to joining the agency, Burton served more than six years in the Navy. He was a Machinist Mate aboard USS Philadelphia. Burton graduated from the University of the State of New York with a bachelors of science degree in nuclear technology.

Stephen Burton is an experienced inspector with a firm commitment to safety. He will help the NRC fulfill its mission of protecting people and the environment by helping ensure the Point Beach plant operates at the high standards set by the NRC, Region III Administrator Mark Satorius said.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, monitoring major work projects and interacting with plant workers and the public. Burton joins Acting Resident Inspector Meghan Thorpe-Kavanaugh at the plant. Both can be reached at (920) 755-2309.
