NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 E-mail: opa.resource@nrc.gov Site: www.nrc.gov Blog: http://public-blog.nrc-gateway.gov No.12-051 May 9, 2012 NRC HONORED AS 2012 TOP SUPPORTER OF HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES The 10th annual survey conducted by U.S. Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine lists the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as one of the government agencies considered most supportive of the engineering departments of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU). The full list of these top supporters will be published in an upcoming version of the magazine.

The survey is a result of a poll among deans of the accredited HBCU engineering programs and the corporate-academic alliance Advancing Minorities Interest in Engineering.

The NRC has always been a leader among federal agencies in efforts to strengthen and support HBCUs. Our mutually beneficial partnerships with these academic institutions have allowed us to recruit and improve the diversity of our staff, while also advancing the research capacity of these institutions through grants and contracts, said Vonna Ordaz, director of the NRCs Office of Small Business and Civil Rights. We are pleased to accept this designation.

NOTE: Anyone wishing to take photos or use a camera to record any portion of a NRC meeting should contact the Office of Public Affairs beforehand.
