NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, DC 20555-001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Web Site: http://www.nrc.gov/OPA No.05-105 July 22, 2005 NRC FINDS NO SIGNIFICANT ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS FROM EXTENDED OPERATION OF MILLSTONE POWER STATION, UNITS 2 AND 3 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued its final environmental impact statement on the proposed renewal of the operating licenses for the Millstone Power Station, Units 2 and 3. The report contains the NRCs finding that there are no environmental impacts that would preclude license renewal for an additional 20 years of operation.

The Millstone nuclear plant is located in Waterford, Conn., on Millstone Point between the Niantic and Thames rivers, approximately 40 miles southeast of Hartford. The current operating licenses expire on July 31, 2015, for Unit 2 and Nov. 25, 2025, for Unit 3. Dominion Nuclear Connecticut, Inc., the licensee, submitted the applications for renewal of the licenses on Jan. 22, 2004.

As part of its environmental review of the applications, the NRC held public meetings near the plant to discuss the scope of the review and the draft version of the environmental impact statement.

Comments were received from members of the public, local officials and representatives of state and federal agencies.

The Millstone Final Environmental Impact Statement is available on the NRCs Web site:
