SAFETY EVALUATION FOR THE KAIROS POWER LLC CONSTRUCTION PERMIT APPLICATION FOR THE HERMES 2 NON-POWER TEST REACTOR FACILITY (EPID NO. L-2023-CPS-0000)

Dear Mr. Hastings:

This letter is to inform you that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed the safety evaluation (SE) for the Kairos Power LLC (Kairos) construction permit application for the Hermes 2 non-power test reactor facility. Kaiross application was submitted by letter dated July 14, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML23195A121).

The enclosed SE is provided to Kairos for information and will be submitted to the Commission in preparation for the mandatory (uncontested) hearing. The SE has also been made public (ML24200A115). The NRC staff issuance of this SE does not constitute a commitment to issue the construction permit.
