Hermes 2 Audit Question 13.1-11 Date:

Wednesday, January 24, 2024 4:12:00 PM Darrell and Drew,

Below is audit question 13.1-11 for the Hermes 2 General Audit. The NRC staff would like to discuss this question during our next audit meeting on PSAR Chapter 13. Kairos is welcome to post answers to this question on the Kairos electronic reading room, but no written answer is requested by the NRC staff at this time.

PSAR Section Request Number Request/Question Section 13.1, Initiating Events and Scenarios 13.1-11 In the PSAR Section 13.1 and in KPTR022NP, intermediate salt (BeNaF) freezing is not explicitly listed as an event grouped into postulated event categories or as a prevented event.

a. State the consequences of intermediate salt freezing.
b. State whether Kairos considered intermediate salt freezing as either an initiating event or as part of an event sequence.
c. State if a technical specification limiting condition for operation will be proposed to prevent intermediate salt freezing.

If you have any questions or need clarifications on the questions before the discussion, please do not hesitate to contact me. This email will be added to ADAMS and will be made public.

Mike
