NRC 898 Completeness determination ALS2 Surveillance Ellimination signed.pdf image001.png Good morning, Anthony.

The NRC staff has completed its acceptance review of WCAP-18810-P, Advanced Logic System v2 Platform Elimination of Technical Specification Surveillance Requirements which Westinghouse submitted to the NRC on December 20, 2023 (EPID L-2023-TOP-0056). This topical report provides a methodology to eliminate certain Technical Specification (TS) Surveillance Requirements (SRs) related to the ALS v2 platform. The NRC staff determined that sufficient information has been provided by Westinghouse to support commencement of a detailed technical review of the subject topical report. The staff will perform an evaluation of the report to make regulatory findings regarding SR elimination.

Regarding the requested evaluation schedule, the staff determined that the requested one-year completion period would be challenging due to:

Projected resource availability over the requested evaluation period.

Level of details and complexity of the report.

Comparison with previously reviews about similar topic.

As such, based on current projections and our assessment of priorities, the staff plans to issue a draft safety evaluation by May 22, 2025. If necessary, the NRC staff will issue requests for additional information (RAIs) by November 15, 2024. The staff estimates a level of effort of 560 hours0.00648 days
0.156 hours
9.259259e-4 weeks
2.1308e-4 months
will be needed to complete the technical review and issue the Final Safety Evaluation. The schedule and level of effort could change due to several factors such as the need for additional rounds of RAIs, unanticipated changes to the scope of the review, vendor delays, unsolicited supplements to the topical report, unexpected ACRS involvement, etc. The NRC staff will communicate, any changes to the review schedule or estimated NRC staff hours including the reason(s) for the changes.

Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss.

Thanks,

Lucieann Vechioli Feliciano (She, Her, Hers)
