Dear Mr. Bolin:
This letter provides the final safety evaluation (SE) for the General Atomics - Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) topical report (TR) 30599T00005, Fast Modular Reactor Principal Design Criteria, Revision 2. By letter dated June 3, 2022 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML22154A555), GA-EMS submitted the TR for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review. On October 5, 2022, the NRC staff provided its requests for additional information (RAIs) (ML22321A310). GA-EMS addressed NRC staff RAIs in letter dated November 7, 2022 (ML22311A472) and Revision 2 to the TR dated January 5, 2023 (ML23005A290).
The NRC staffs final SE for Fast Modular Reactor Principal Design Criteria, Revision 2, is enclosed.
July 6, 2023
In email dated March 17, 2023 (ML23128A008) the NRC staff provided GA-EMS a draft of its SE (ML23076A196) for the purpose of identifying proprietary information. In email dated March 24, 2023, GA-EMS confirmed that there was no proprietary information in the draft SE (ML23167C145).
The Advisory Committee for Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) was briefed on this TR on May 2, 2023, and June 7, 2023. The ACRS provided its recommendations for the publication of this SE in a letter dated June 20, 2023 (ML23166A446). The enclosed SE is final.
The NRC staff requests that GA-EMS publish an accepted version of this TR within 3 months of receipt of this letter. The accepted version shall incorporate this letter and the enclosed SE after the title page. The accepted version shall include an "-A" (designating accepted) following the TR identification symbol.
