SUMMARY
OF AUGUST 10, 2023, CLOSED MEETING WITH KAIROS POWER, LLC REGARDING CONSULTATIONS UNDER SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT On August 10, 2023, a closed meeting was held via webinar between staff from the U.S.
Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and representatives of Kairos Power, LLC (Kairos). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the field investigation that Kairos conducted the week of August 7th and some of the preliminary results. The information discussed is protected under National Historic Preservation Act Section 304. A list of meeting attendees is provided as an enclosure to this summary.
On August 8th thru 9th, Kairos implemented their plan for a field investigation as requested by the consulting Tribe in a phone call with the NRC staff on June 5, 2023 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System ML2317A008). Kairos staff discussed details of their survey including locations of shovel test pits and photographs. Kairos staff also discussed their relook at the soil borings from the earlier investigation conducted in spring 2023. The NRC staff reminded Kairos of observations provided during the July 25 closed meeting that the report should address. Kairos discussed path to resolution for some of the staffs concerns regarding the earlier report provided by Kairos in April.
Kairos also discussed preliminary deliberations for how the results from the field investigation will inform their update to the Archaeological Resource Monitoring and Unanticipated Discovery Plan. Kairos informed the NRC staff that they are expediting the completion of the report to the best of their ability and plan to provide for the NRC staff and tribal review no later than mid-September.
