Acceptance of the GLE Disposal request.
Date: Wednesday, January 11, 2023 1:14:00 PM Pat, Happy New Year. Below is the acceptance of the GLE Disposal Request. Note: The U.S. Department of Energy provided a copy of their decision letter for review. Once it goes final, we will reference it in our decision letter.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed the acceptance review of the GLE Request for Approval of Disposal Method of Classified Matter dated November 9, 2022, (ADAMS Accession No. ML22353A590). The letter requests the U.S. Department of Energy and NRC approval of the proposed disposal for safe and secure disposal of classified matter associated with the project in accordance with 10 CFR 95.47.
The NRC staff has determined there is sufficient information to accept the submittal for formal review. The NRC staff has identified no administrative omissions or deficiencies that would prevent us from proceeding with a detailed review. Your submittal has been assigned Enterprise Project Identification Number (EPID) L-2021-SPR-0002. Please reference this EPID number and Docket Number 07007033 in any future correspondence associated with this request.
Please note that the NRC staffs technical review of your submittal may identify issues that require additional information. Based on our preliminary evaluation and projection of current review schedules, we anticipate completing our formal review by March 28, 2023. This date could change depending on the findings of our technical review, urgent assignments, or other factors. We will promptly communicate any significant changes to this schedule. In addition, the NRC staff estimates that completing the review of your submittal will require approximately 10 staff hours which corresponds to about
$2,900.00 ($290.00/hr).
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Agency Rules of Practice and Procedure, a copy of this email will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR) and in ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html. The PDR is currently closed.
