SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF MAY 21, 1987 MEETING WITH PUBLIC SERVICE ELECTRIC AND GAS COMPANY RE: Hope Creek Generating Station NRC staff members met with Public Service Electric and Gas Company (PSE&G) representations on May 21, 1987 in Bethesda, Maryland to discuss PSE&G's reasons and schedule for installation of a new computer systen for the safety parameter display system (SPDS). It also explained problems with respect to having operational the four additional SPDS parameters prior to restart on the first refueling outage as required by the Hope Creek operating license. PSE&G representatives stated that they could not meet this schedule because the new system installation will be completed during the outage and that tests have to be performed on the system at power in order to prove that the four new SPDS parameters have been properly integrated into the system. PSE&G indicated that it is planning to request that the license be modified to extend the schedular requirement for completing the four additional SPDS parameters. The staff requested that the PSE&G submittal include: a description of what work will be done during the refueling; what will be done after the outage and why it can't be done during the outage; an absolute final date beyond the restart date for completion and a justification for this date. Copies of viewgraphs used during the discussion and a list of meeting attendees are enclosed.
