This refers to the special safety inspection conducted by the NRC Augmented Incident Response Team under Dr. Carl J. Paperiello of this office on February 1 thru 27, 1986 relating to the earthquake and its consequences that occurred on January 31, 1986 in the area of the Perry Nuclear Power Plant.

This refers also to the meetings and discussion of findings with you and others of your staff during the course of this inspection.

The enclosed copy of the Augmented Incident Response Team report identifies areas examined during the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and interviews with your vendor representatives and consultants.

ho violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this inspection.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the Commission's regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
