1.0 DESCRIPTION

1.1 Scope

This instruction demonstrates the operational readiness of seismic monitoring instrumentation by performing a Channel Check.

This instruction fully satisfies _the requirements of Technical Specification surveillance require-ments 4.3.7.2.1.

This instruction will check the following seismic instruments:

1.

Triaxial Time - History Accelerographs.

a.

D51-N101 Reactor Building Foundation Sensor b.

D51-N111 Containment Vessel Sensor c.

D51-N100 Reactor Building Foundation Trigger d.

D51-N110 Reactor Building Foundation Trigger 2.

Triaxial Seismic Switch D51-N150 Reactor Building Foundation.

3.

Triaxial Response - Inspection Recorder D51-N160 Reactor Building Foundation.

1.2 Frequency

At least once per 31 days (M) 1.3 Technical Specification Applicable Operational Conditions:

One in control room and one at H51-P021.

Establish communication between the Control Room and local SEISMIC INSTRUMENT PANEL H51-P021 at IB-599-0/02.

Key for SMA-3 Strong Motion Accelerograph System mode keyswitch.

Key for Peak Shock Annunciator test / reset switch at COMMON ANALOG LOOP INSTRUMENTATION AND AUXILIARY RELAY PANEL 1H13-P969.

4.0 PREREQUISITES i

NOTE:

. The Unit Supervisor may mark as Not Applicable (N/A) those prerequisites that do not apply for the current plant equipment or conditions.

Obtain the Unit Supervisor's " Authorization to Start Prerequisites" signature on the Data Package Cover Sheet.

Mark the new cassette D51-R0112 TEST and load ghe cassette in recorder D51-R0112 by performing t'he following:

a.

Pull down on the slide handle, and insert the

cassette, b.

Release slide slowly so as not to damage the transport or the tape.

NOTE:

The next 2 steps will cause the SEISMIC MONITOR TRBL annunciator on 1H13-P680 to alarm.

9 7.

On SHA-3, turn keyswitch to TEST for 15 seconds to wind up tape leader on to takeup reel, then turn to 0FF.

NOTE:

Should the tape stall on the leader, momentarily pull down the slide handle to free the tape.

9 8.

Place the SHA-3 keyswitch in TEST mode for about 10 seconds, then turn to 0FF.

9 9.

Wait 15 seconds and then turn the keyswitch to OPERATE mode.

10.

Ensure SEISMIC MONITOR TRBL on panel 1H13-P680 is reset.

9 11.

Depress the SEISMIC TRIGGER TEST pushbutton on panel H51-P021.

9 12.

Verify EVENT ALARM is illuminated on H51-P021 for approximately 10 seconds.

9 13.

Verify SMA-3 and recorders D51-R0102 and D51-R0112 are actuated and operate for about 10 seconds and then de-actuate.

9 14.

Verify SEISMIC MONITOR TRBL annunciator on 1H13-P680 is alarmed.

9 15.

After 15 seconds, depress RESET pushbutton and observe EVENT A MRM off on H51-P021.

16.

Ensure SEISMIC MONITOR TRBL annunciator alarm on 1H13-P680 is reset.

9 17.

Remove test cassette tape from recorder D51-R0102 by pulling down on the slide handle and carefully pulling out the cassette.

Remove test cassette tape from recorder D51-RS112 by pulling down on the slide handle and carefully pulling

.out the cassette.

9 19.

Re-load original tape marked D51-R0102 into recorder D51-R0102 by pulling down slide handle, inserting the cassette with label side showing, and then releasing the slide handle slowly.

20.

Close the recorder D51-R0102 enclosure properly.

21.

Re-load original tape marked D51-R0112 into recorder D51-R0112 by pulling down slide handle, inserting the cassette with label showing, and then releasing the slide handle slowly.

22.

Close recorder D51-R0112 enclosure properly.

9 23.

On the playback unit SMP-1, turn the POWER SELECT switch to AC RUN.

24.

To load the cassette to be graphed, open the recorder enclosure on SMP-1, pull down the slide handle and insert the D51-R0102 TEST cassette, and release slide handle slowly.

9 25.

Place the TRANSPORT switch to ON and ensure the cassette tape runs smoothly and then place TRANSPORT switch to 0FF.

9 26.

Rewind cassette tape by pulling down and to the left on the slide handle.

9 27.

Plac's the STYLUS ON/0FF switch to ON.

8 28.

Place the STYLUS DRIVE CAL /RUN/ZERO switch to ZERO.

8 29.

Place CHART DRIVE switch to 25mm/sec and center the stylus on chart using the POSITION control knob.

Place the GAIN FACTOR switch to 1.

Place the CHANNEL SELECT switch to 1.

Place the STYLUS DRIVE CAL /RUN/ZERO to RUN.

Place the TRANSPORT switch to ON and observe the tape transport and chart drive operating.

Observe when the timing marks on the right hapd side of chart are absent, place TRANSPORT and CHART DRIVE switches to 0FF.

35.

Rewind test cassette by pulling slide handle down and to the left.

36.

Place CHANNEL SELECT switch to 2.

37.

Place the CHART DRIVE switch to 25mm/sec and TRANSPORT switch to ON and observe the tape transport and chart drive operate.

33.

Observe, when the timing marks on the right hand side of chart are absent, place the TRANSPORT and CHART DRIVE switches to OFF.

39.

Rewind the cassette tape by pulling slide handle down and to the left.

40.

Place the CHANNEL SELECT switch to 3.

41.

Place the CHART DRIVE switch to 25mm/sec and TRANSPORT switch to ON and observe the tape transport and chart drive operate.

42.

Observe when the timing marks on the right hand side of chart are absent, place the TRANSPORT and CHART DRIVE switches to 0FF.

43.

Remove cassette tape from playback unit by ling down on the slide handle and carefully pulling <

Load the D51-R0112 TEST cassette by pulling down the slide handle and insert the cassette and release slide handle slowly.

45.

Place CHANNEL SELECT switch to 1.

46.

Place the CHART DRIVE switch to 25mm/sec and TRANSPORT switch to ON and observe the tape transport and chart drive operating.

47.

Observe when the timing marks on the right hand side of chart are absent, place TRANSPORT and CHART DRIVE switches to 0FF.

48.

Rewind test cassette by pulling slide handle down and to the left.

Place the CHART DRIVE switch to 25mm/sec and TRANSPORT switch to ON and observe the tape transport and chart drive operate.

51.

Observe when the timing marks on the right hand side of chart are absent, place TRANSPORT and CHART DRIVE switches to 0FF.

52.

Rewind test cassette by pulling slide handle down and to the left.

53.

Place CHANNEL SELECT switch to 3.

54.

Place the CHART DRIVE switch to 25mm/sec and TRANSPORT switch to ON and observe the tape transport and chart drive operate.

55.

Observe when the timing marks on the right hand side of chart are absent, place TRANSPORT and CHART DRIVE switches to 0FF.

56.

Remove cassette tape from playback unit by pulling down on the slide handle and carefully pulling out the cassette.

Place the STYLUS ON/0FF switch to OFF.

58.

Place the CHANNEL SELECT switch to 0FF.

59.

Place the POWER SELECT switch to BATTERY CHARGE.

60.

Remove chart recording nad mark test tape graph chart as D51-R0102 channel 1, 2, 3 and D51-R0112 channel 1, 2, 3 respectively.

61.

Verify that each channel has approximately 20 seconds of

. test record (each timing mark is 1/2 second) and attach to Attachment 1.

5.1.2 Spectrum Recorder D51-R160 Channel Check NOTE:

The following steps are performed on the COMMON ANALOG LOOP INSTRUMENTATION AND AUXILIARY RELAY PANEL 1H13-P969.

1.

Insert key and turn TEST / RESET switch to TEST.

2.

Verify all 72 frequency spectrum lights come on.

Record unlit lights in the comments section on.

3.

Verify SEISMIC ALARM P969 on 1H13-P680 has actuated.

Turn the TEST / RESET keyswitch to RESET and remove the key. Observe all lights are off.

5.

Ensure SEISMIC ALARM P969 on 1H13-P680 reset.

5.2 Plant / System Restoration 1.

COMPLETE the System Restoration Checklist, Attachment 2 using the methods of Independent Verification.

5.3 Acceptance Criteria 1.

Test cassette playback graph chart recording is continuous for each channel and each recorder cassette.

2.

For seismic instrument Channel Check, the EVEST ALARM on 1H51-P021, SEISMIC MONITOR TRBL annunciator on 1H13-P680 alarm.

3.

Spectrum Recorder Channel Check shall actuate all 72 frequency spectrum lights on panel 1H13-P969, and actuate SEISMIC ALARM P969 annunciator on 1H13-P680.

5.4 Records The following documents are generated by this instruction:

Quality Assurance Records:

Data Package Cover Sheet 2.

Sign-Off Verification Sheet 3.

System Restoration Checklist Non Quality Records:

None.

Records identification and disposition are accomplished in accor-dance with the Records Retention / Disposition Schedule (RR/DS) and handled in accordance with PAP-1701, Plant Records Management.
