1 JUN 3 125 Mr. Kenneth Keith Tennessee Valley Authority j

400 N. Summit Hill Drive Knoxville, Tennessee 37902

Dear Mr. Keith:

This letter is in reference to your request to obtain the Nuclear Plant Analyzer Executive and Graphic Programs.

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is happy to transmit to you a magnetic tape containing the code and a copy of the draft user's manual provided that Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) agrees to the following.

1.

TVA will not release the code software to any third party, TVA will not permit any third party access to use or perusal of the code software on any computer, unless authorized by the NRC.

2.

TVA will immediately notify the NRC of any reactor safety problem which may be uncovered through the use of the code, as required by the standard Code of Federal Regulations.

3.

If TVA discovers code errors, TVA will communicate these errors to the code developers at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL).

4.

If TVA makes any improvement and/or modification to the code, including converted versions of the code, these improvements and/or modifications will be made available to the NRC.

l 5.

If TVA requires INEL's assistance to implement and/or use this r

software, the assistance will be given on a cost recovery basis and will be negotiated in a seperate agreement with the NRC.

In interpreting the results of your analyses under Item 2 above, bear in mind that the Nuclear Plant Analyzer has not yet been completed. We do not warrant the accuracy of the results for any particular use or application.

L The signature below of an authorized official of your company will indicate acceptance of these items.

If you accept these terms, I will arrange for the l

transmittal of the tape and draft user's manual to the above address.

Please feel free to contact Harry Tovmassian, of my staff, should.you have any further questions.

Dr. B. A. Cullimore Martin Marietta Aerospace Corporation MS N0484 Post Office Box 179 Denver, CO 80201

Dear Dr. Cullimore:

As an enclosure to this letter, we are providing the latest working version of TRAC-PFl/ MOD 1 on computer tape.

In essence, we are sending you the resequenced version of the program library, Version 11.0, plus all the updates that are required to bring you up to Version 12.1.

The file structure of the tape is listed on the following table.

We reconmend that you start with the second file (PF1) to create a Program Library using your UPDATg processor. This will be the base Program Library from which you can create Version 12.1 using the provided updates (files HTil.4 and HT12.1).

Use update file EXTll.4 making a new program library and then i

use the new program library with EIT12.1 to make the 12.1 version of the code.

(Do not put all the updates together in one run).

The program library contains many *IF DEF options that allow the user to produce a machine dependent source.

The options are explained fully on Pages 431 of the TRAC-PFl/ MOD manual.

For CDC machines, we usually recommend using definitions $7600, OVLAY, and TgNB.

However you should read through the options explained in the manual to determine if you want to invoke other options for your computer.

For completeness, we are providing the various utility programs that are used at Los Alamos for graphics output.

Since these programs rely heavily on standard DISSPLA subroutines, they may be difficult to implement unless DISSPLA is supported on your computer system.

To enable you to check out the code, we are also providing test problem input and output.

These files are at the end of the tape as shown in the table.

Also included is a microfiche copy of the output.
