DEC 3 91977 NOTE T0:
D. G. Eisenhut, Assistant Director for Operating Technology, 00R FROM:
J. T. Collins, Chief, Effluent Treatment Systems Branch, DSE THRU:
R. H. Vollmer, Assistant Ofrector for Site.\\nalysis, OSE
SUBJECT:
SYSTEMATIC EVALUATION PROGRAM I have reviewed your report to the ACRS on the above subject attached to your wno of November 30, 1977, and I have the following corrnents.
Paragraph (2) Radioactive Wastes Systems, page 12 states, in part, that
"... if the worst possible failure of any of these systems were postu-lated to occur, it has been calculated that the resultant consequences would not exceed 10 CFR Part 100 guidelines.
l We would appreciate knowing the details of the calculations indicated l
in the above paragraph and what parameters were used in the evaluation.
We would also like to know the definition of the "worst possible failure" used in this recort.
i As you know, for CP/0L applications, we do not evaluat; railure of the liquid or solid waste systems for the "worst possible failure," nor do we evaluate these failures against the guidelines of 10 CFR Part 100.
j In confomance with SRP 15.7.3, we consider liquid containing tanks out-side containment and evaluate the failure of the tank postulated to have c
the highest activity content against the concentration values noted in 10 CFR Part 20, Appendix 0, Table II, Column 2.
