This is~ to clarify the disposition of.the Lockheed Georgia facility and the regulatory authority over the remaining radioactive materials.at the j

facility when Facility License No. R-86 was terminated and subsequent deconnissioning of the site.

[ On AprilDecounissioning Plan and a plan for-disposal of reactor components.for -

l the Radiation Effects Reactor, License No. R-86.

Note that it included a request for temination of R-86 with simultaneous issuance of a State F

j 1.icense. A copy of this submittal is enclosed.

.On August 31, 1971, the Connission tenninated Facility License No. R-86.

A copy of the termination order is enclosed. Concurrently with the termination of Facility License No..R-86, Georgia issued five licenses (Nos. 95-1, 99-1,100-1,101-1 and 102-1) to Lockheed Georgia to cover five specific areas of contamination during the decounissioning of the i

site. The AEC letter transmitting the tennination order to Lockheed ij noted the issuance of Georgia License No. GA-95-1 covering the remaining l

radioactive. contaminants at the Radiation Effects Reactor facility. These g

five licenses were subsequently tenninated by Georgia on June 22, 1972.

Also enclosed are letters between the Connission and Lockheed Georgia i

js clarifying the disposition of the site. These letters, dated March 30, wp 1972 and May 5,-1972, reference Georgia's acknowledgement of the p.c deconmissioning and Georgia's regulatory authority over those activities.
