SUBJECT:

CRD Brake and Limit Switch Diode Testing

REFERENCE:

Transcripts of PSC/NRC Meeting of February 22, 1985 (G-85087)

Dear Mr. Johnson:

As discussed in a site meeting on February 22, 1985, this letter is in response to PSC commitment log item CL-1055 and is providing you information concerning verification of operability of the surge diodes on the control rod drive brake and limit switch relays.

There are eight diodes per refueling region that are used for arc suppression or isolation. The first seven diodes listed below are located in the control room on panel I-03. The last diode listed is located in the breaker cubicle for each region in the CRD motor control center. The diodes and their function are as follows:

(1) DAS X In Limit Relay Arc Suppression (2) DAS X Out Limit Relay Arc Suppression (3) DAS X Slack Cable Relay Arc Suppression -

(4) CR 1-X - Slack Cable Reset Relay Isolation (5) CR 2-X - In Limit Light Isolation (6) CR 3-X - Slack Cable Light Isolation (7) CR 4-X - Out Limit Light Isolation jb[ $ ,/

Presently there are no surveillances performed to verify operability of these. diodes. Anactionrequest(DCAR-704)hasbeeninitiated to provide relocation of the diodes so they can be tested on a regular basis without causing a less of control rod position indication or

[ control rod scram.
