Dear Secretary of the Commission:
I l
I am writing you to ask that you NOT APPROVE dry cask storage at. Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Covert, Michigan.
As a 4
resident and farmer living and working within the ten mile radius of the plant designated for Emergency Preparedness, I am alarmed that these casks are being built as I write.
j There must be public hearings hold, whatever the law requires,
{
because public health and safety are being placed at high risk.
It is my belief that, this risk is unacceptably high.
)
There are many reasons fer this.
As self-described policemen for projects such as these, you should be concerned about possible harm to citizens.
If you are not, what is your function?
Morely to rubbers *, amp the projects of profitmaking utilitiac which are
{
surely not concerned about local residents?
These casks are most likely not temporary, but permanent.
All j
containers degrade ovt.r time.,
These cas):e have never been tested in their full size through a harsh winter.
When something goes i
vrong who vi13 Learthe cost?

The answer to this problem is to shut down Palisades.due to a lack of safe removal optdans for spent fuel.
We have sufficient energy in this area.
In fact, Consumers Power is cocking to sell
{
excess energy at this time.
Shouldn't the health ano safety of residents mandate a shutdown?
Sincerely, 4
. /
