Dear Sir:
This letter is sent to voice my opposition to the proposed
" temporary storage" of nuclear waste in dry casks at Consumers Power Co.'s Palisades Plant in Michigan.
While this storage has been characterized as " temporary", the casks that have been constructed are not designed to be transported.
Once these casks are loaded, we will be faced with a rather permanent nuclear storage site on the very fragile dunes of Lake Michigan. Additionally, these casks are a passive system and their proposed monitoring is presently without instrumentation.
At the very least, the pending proposals require a public hearing and an environmental impact study.
I would be most pleased to have your comments on this matter.
