DOCKETI% 1 e ICE Bh h September 29,1994 Attention: Docketing & Service Branch U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commison i
Washington, D.C. 20555 Re: Comment on proposed generic approval by mie of NUHOMS 52B dry casks.
Dear Sirs:
I am writing on behalf of Oyster Creek Nuclear Watch to ask that the NUHOMS 52B dry casks not be given the generic approval currently proposed under the rulemaking process.
We have read of ihe problem with the dry casks at the Palisades plant in Michigan, where a cask has been found to be substandard, and where there is apparently at j
present no established procedure for remedying the situation.
i We believe that it is unacceptable that casks should be approved without a known reliable method for remediating flaws that may later be discovered. To do this would be to jeopardize the health and safety of the people of our area as well as any others where NUHOMS 52B casks may be used.
Oyster Creek Nuclear Watch further objects to this proposed mle because it is our understandng that there are substantial diiferences between fuel rods and assemblies at different plants, which would make a generic rule inappropriate and unsafe.
Sincerely, b
W.
