JERSEY CENTRAL POWER AND LIGHT COMPANY (0YSTER CREEK)
Problem:
The licensee reported to Region I by telephone on May 30, 1974, that on May 29, 1974, a small leak was noted at a 2" instrument penetration on the bottom of the reactor vessel.
The following preliminary information was provided by the licensee:
- 1. The reactor is currently shut down for refueling.
The plant has been shut down since April 13, 1974.
- 2. The leakage was found during a required test of the reactor system. The nominal leak rate is 1 ml/ min.
- 3. Mandel, Pannoff and Rockwell Associates (Consultant) and General Electric, the reactor vessel, will provide technical assistance.
- 4. The storage pool lacks sufficient capacity to accommodate the entira core at this time.
Action Takee by Regulatory Operations:
- 1. A Region I inspector is at the site.
Further action by Regulatory Operations will be based on developtr' M.
- 2. The licensee will submit written.repc.ts as required by the Technical Specifications.
- 3. The State of New Jersey was notiffed. A press release is being made by the licensee and Region I.
- 4. The assistants to the Commissioners, the staff of the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy and the Office of Information Services have been notified by telephone.
