Dear Mr. Nelson:
Subject:
Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Docket No. 50-219 Inspection No. 75-12 This responds to the concern of Inspection No. 75-12 which was conducted on April 29-May 1,1975 at the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating i
Station by Mr. liyson. The item of concern was the calibration deficiency i
of the Radwaste Liquid Effluent Monitors RN02-A and RN02-D during the last quarter of 1974 and the first quarter of 1975.
The calibration deficiencies were caused by the high voltage and i
discriminator settings.
A new detector was installed in Monitor RN02-A as a precautionary measure. The high voltage and discriminator settings were adjusted on both monitors. A calibration of both monitors wa.s performed using alternate sources containing more activity.
New button sources have been ordered for future calibrations.
Additionally, the liquid discharge monitor readings will be correlated to known concentrations in the discharge pipe, using both standard i
solutions containing one isotope and actual radwaste semples.
We estimate that recalibration of the liquid discharge monitors with new sources, comparison of monitor readings with known concentrations, alarm set point reevaluation, and operator retraining on the liquid effluent monitors, will be completed within four months from the date of this memorandum.
Very truly yours,
]
