CO INSPECTION REPORT No. 50-219/72-01
JERSEY CENTRAL POWER & LIGHT COMPANY
r
OYSTER CREEK - BWR
There is no doubt in my mind that the shutdown at Oyster Creek con-
tributed to the fish kill even if it was not the sole cause. How-
ever, I agree with the editorial in the Asbury Park Press, February 7,
1972, which stated that if the plant had not been in the area, the
fish that were killed would not have been there either. The fishing
has to be good to have as many people fishing along the canal as
I have seen at different times.
Jersey Central is reluctant to submit a separate report; however,
after they consider the publicity they have already had, I believe
they will submit a report containing all the facts as they see them.
Considering some of the items that they are required to report,
it is incongruous that there is no specific requirement for reporting
the one event that created the most adverse publicity for them since
the plant started up.
