Description of Particular Event or Circumstance:
About100gallonsogchromatedwater(800 ppm)containingradio-activity (3.4 :i 10- gross activity) was lost to the ground from one of the storage tank trucks used to store chromated water at Oyster Creek. Two mechanics discovered water leaking from the tank truck at about 6:30 a.m. on April 24, 1973, and put a drum under the leak to catch the water.
Closer inspection showed that the drain valv. had been opened, allowing the water to drain directly to the ground. The licensee stated that the chromated water storage tanks had been inspected between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. on April 24 during a routine patrol check, and no evidence of leakage was noted at that time; however, the operator could not state that he specifically observed the valve that was found open.
The chromated water came from the torus and was removed when the torus water icvel became too high. The torus high level resulted from the testing of relief valves.

The licensee has. initiated an accelerated program to collect well water samples from three wells in the immediate area.
