SUBJECT:
SHOREHAM OFFSITE EMERGENCY PLANNING CONTROVERSY In your memorandum to me of March 17, 1983 you requested that the staff contact the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and explore the possibility of FEMA instituting discussions among the State of New York, Suffolk County, Long Island Lighting Company and the other participants in the proceeding to determine the precise nature of the differences among the various parties on offsite emergency planning issues.
FEMA advises they have been in contact with officials of the State of New York i
and Suffolk Co'inty and offered their assistance to hold such a meeting but to date neither the State or County officials have responded to the FEMA offer.
FEMA further advises they will not attempt any further initiatives to arrange a meeting among the parties until a request to do so is received from either the State or Suffolk County.
We will keep you nformed as this matter develops.
