I am against the sale and transfer of licenses of Indian Point to Holtec. New York State public officials have already publicly opposed this and have intervened legally to challenge this license transfer to Holtec. Holtec has no experience and also has uncertain financial resources so it makes it very risky to put such an important task in the hands of this company. Other US Representatives have also echoed these sentiments against this transfer.

The safe decommissioning of the Indian Point facility is an awesome responsibility that required a competent trustworthy company and Holtec lacks experience in nuclear plant decommissioning.

Holtec has already been barred from doing business with entities like the TVA and the World Bank. They have been accused of lying to public officials, risk-taking and dangerous contempt for public concern.

Why on earth would they be trusted with such an important responsibility? I think its a very bad idea.

Holtec's complex undercapitalized LLC's shields it from liability and accountability. Since the company is privately held and is secretive about its finances it cannot demonstrate that it has the money available to complete this 1.3 billion dollar job. If it fails we the taxpayers will be forced to deal with the financial mess it leaves behind if they go bankrupt. Holtec has already low balled its cost estimate.

Most importantly the risks of shipping radioactive waste by barge down the Hudson river raises a host of unacceptable risks.

For these reasons, I stand with the NY State elected officials & Federal government elected officials to OPPOSE this sale to Holtec.
