Dear Mr. Denton:

The application for construction permits and operating licenses for Byron Station Units 1 and 2 and Braidwood Station Units 1 and 2, docketed September 20, 1973, are hereby amended by submittal o f Amendment 40 pursuant to 10 CFR 50.34.

Amendment No. 40 to the Byron /Braidwood FSAR consists o f new responses to questions from the Power Systems Branch (040.0 series) and the Ef fluent Treatment Systems Branch (321.0 series).

Also included are revised responses to Questions 010.17, 010.53, 022.5, 022.8, 022.10, 022.73, 110.72, 130.37, 130.41, 212.90, 241.1, 241.6, 281.7, 311.8, 3 21.4 3, 371.5 ( Braidwood), and 3 71.9 (Byron), and voluntary tex t changes.

Attachment A to this letter lists the questions answered in this amendment.

Attachment B lists the questions that will be answered in future amendments.
