Dear Mr. Denton:

The application for construction permits and operating licenses for Byron Station Units 1 and 2, docketed September 20, 1973, are-hereby amended by submittal of Amendment 38 pursuant to 10 CFR 50.34.

Amendment No. 38 to the Byron /Braidwood FSAR consists of responses to questions from the Core Performance Branch (221.0 series), the Materials Engineering Branch (251.0 series), the-Chemical Engineering Branch (281.0 series), the Ef fluent Treatment Systems Branch (321.0 series), and the Hydrologic and Geotechnical Engineering Branch (362.0 series).

Also included are revised responses to Questions 005.1, 005.3, 010.34, 010.43, 010.47, 022.14, 022.58, 022.72, 031.43, 040.89, 212.20, 251.2, 251.3, 281.4, 311.32, 311.33, 311.34, 331.17, 421.22, and voluntary text changes.

Attachment A to this letter lists the questions answered in this amendment.

Attachment B lists the questions that will be answered in future amendments.

Three (3) signed originals and fif ty-seven (57) copies of this amendment are submitted for your review and approval.
