i On January 12, 1989, the Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research will be chairing j

a public u sting in conntetion e<ith the development of a proposed policy statement on exerftiens from iepulatory control. The meeting, as indicated in the enclosed rederal Register Notice, will be held at the Holiday Inn on Wisconsin Avenue in Bethesda and is scheduled to take. place from 9:00 a.m.

to 5:00 p.m.

Representatives from your office have worked closely with us in the developrent of an exemption policy from which the Commission formulated the advance notice included in the Federal Register announcement.

I believe it would be worthwhile to have an NRC panel at the meeting, including representatives from your r

offices t If this is agreeable,oassistRESinansweringquestionsfromthepublic.

I would appreciate your designation of an a ppropriate representative (s) to attend the meeting and serve on t3e panel. No prepared l
