U S NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION WASHINGTON D C 20555 DOCKET 50-312 RANCHO SEC0 NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION UNIT 1 INTRUSION DETECTION SYSTEM Your letter of July 14, 1981, requested information about our efforts to reduce the number of false / nuisance alarms in the Rancho Seco Unit 1 Intrusion /

Detection System. We responded on August 21, 1981, with an agreement to deter-mine an acceptable target size upon which we would propose a change to our secu-rity plan with a revised nuisance alarm rate. We committed to provide this information by September 30, 1981.

Unplanned outages at Rancho Seco Unit 1 have placed a burden on our manpower dnd the testing to determine an acceptable target size is just now beginning.

We ti;erefore wish to revise our commitment and now propose submitting the information and a proposed revision to our security plan by November 30, 1981.

If we can provide any additional information at this time, please advise.
