IN RESPONSE REFER Washington, DC 20036 TO F01A-82-603

Dear Ms. Lindeman:

This is in further response to your letter dated December 13, 1982, in which you requested, pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOI A),

seven categories of records regarding Brown & Root, Inc., and the South Texas Project.

By letter dated January 27, 1983, we provided a partial response to your request and informed you that additional records were undergoing review.

At this time, we are providing this further response regarding certain additional records subject to categories three, four and five of your request, as noted below.

i Category three.

Upon search of pertinent files, the staff identified the handwritten note in the margin of the record identified on enclosed Appendix B as the only record subject to this category of your request.

Category four.

Per Linda Robinson's telephone call to you on February 8, 1983, to clarify the scope of this category, you agreed to narrow the scope to records generated prior to and directly relating to the special investigati on. With regard to records generated subsequent to the subject special investigation report, you stated that you may be interested in submitting a separate FOIA request for records directly related to the responses submitted by Houston Lighting and Power but that you are not interested in certain other related subsequent records such as those pertaining to the Quadrex report.

For your information, we have identified certain records related to pertinent Congressional hearings.

In the event you may be interested in this matter, additional information regarding these hearings is available from other public sources.

Congressional testimony and related materials submitted in response to questions or for the record of hearings are reprinted in committee hearing prints.

The prints are available for free use of the general 8305180001 830309 PDR FOIA LINDEMA82-603 PDR L.

public through the Federal Depository Library Program, established by Title 44 of the United States Code, and the National Archives.

The libraries of the Executive departments, service academies, and certain independent agencies (not NRC) are designated depositories (44 U.S.C.

11907).

Also we understand that copies of the prints may be obtained from the various committees.

In addition, the NRC has already addressed some additional records subject to category four in response to another FOIA request, F01A 513, from Mr. John Emshwiller. Therefore, you also may wish to inspect the correspondence and records filed in folder F01A-82-513 at the PDR.

Category five.

In addition to the records identified under this category on enclosed Appendix B, the staff identified the records listed at numbers 5 and 11 under category four, and records listed at numbers 15, 16, and 30 of Appendix A to our response to F0IA-82-513, as also subject to this category.

The 44 records identified under categories three, four and five on Appendix B are being placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR),

~

1717 H Street, N.W., Washington, DC 20555, for your inspection and c opying..These records will be filed in folder F01A-82-603 under your n ane. We have also identified an additional record which is maintained elsewhere at the PDR.

Additional records subject to your request are undergoing review.

We will notify you as soon as review is completed.
