SURVEILLANCE OF THE CONTAINMENT DOME (CRYSTAL RIVER UNIT 3)

We have completed our review of your proposed program for surveillance of the containment dome as described in the document titled " Containment Structural Integrity Dome Surveillance", Rev.1, dated April 26,1977, which was submitted with your letter dated May 10,1977. The purpose of the surveillance program is to detect future delamination of the reactor containment building dome. The surveillance program was submitted in compliance with the requirement of paragraph 2.C.(8) of the Facility Operating License No. DPR-72.

Based on our review, we detemined that the surveillance program will provide for a system of measurements of vertical movement of the dome and mapping of crack widths and crack patterns at periodic intervals that can determine the condition of the structure within acceptable limits. Therefore, we conclude that the proposed surveillance program is acceptable.

We request that you submit a technical specification based on the proposed surveillance program for inclusion in the Appendix A Technical Specifications of Facility Operating License No. DPR-72.
