Dear Mr. Denton:

We have. received and reviewed your letter of June 2.5, 1980, which requested additional information concerning the Quality Assurance List for North Anna Unit 2.

We have also had several telephone con-versations and a meeting with members of your staff concerning this subject.

Our responses to the three requests in your letter are provided in the' Enclosure.

Based on our conversations with inembers of your staf f, we believe that you now have sufficient information to complete your review.

Very truly yours, r

ENCLOSURE RESPONSES TO NRC REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION NORTH ANNA UNIT 2 Request A:

Please modify the tabulation in Table 17.1.4-1 (of the FSAR) to be consistent with Table 3.2.1-1.

It is preferable to use a single table which may be referenced in Chapter 17.

Response

Tables 3.2.1-1 and 17.1.4-1 of the FSAR have been reviewed against one another, and appropriate revisions have been made in order to make these tables consistent, and to reflect the changes requested by members of the staff.

The revised version of Table 17.1.4-1 is attached. Revisions will also be made to the Power Station Quality Assurance Manual to reflect the information in this table.

Tables 3.2.1-1 and 17.1.4-1 were originally developed for different purposes in the FSAR, and both will be retained, as has been discussed with members of the staff.

Request B:

For items identified in Table 17.1.4-1, indicate whether the entire structure, system or component is within the scope of Appendix B to 10 CFR Part 50.

If this is not the case, clearly identify each portion of the structure, system or component I

not within the scope of Appendix B.

Response

-Those items identified as QA Category I in Table 17.1.4-1, and Seismic Category I in Table 3.2.1-1 are within the scope of Appendix B to 10 CFR 50.

Those items classified in Categories II or III upon failure will not result in a release of radioactivity that would endanger public safety, nor is it their purpose to mitigate the effect of such failure, nor are they required for safety operation, shutdown and removal of residual heat.

The Vepco Topical Report VEP-3A will be revised to include references to these tables.

Request C:

The following items are within the scope of Appendix B and should be added to your Q-list.

Response
