TOLEDO EDISON COMPANY DAVIS-BESSE NUCLEAR POWER STATION UNIT ONE SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FOR LER NP-33-79 22 DATE OF EVENT: January 30, 1979 FACILITY: Davis-Besse Unit 1 IDENTIFICATION OF OCCURRENCE:

Photoelectric Detector DS 8605-E did not pass Sur-veillance Test ST 5016.04.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence: The unit was in Mode 1, with Power (MWT) = 2550, and Load (Gross MWE) = 825.

Description of Occurrence: While conducting Surveillance Test ST 5016.04, " Detector Channel Functional and Supervisory Circuits Checks", it was determined that Photo-electric Smoke Detector DS 8605-E in the Emergency Diesel Generator 1-1 area was not functional and a test deficiency was prepared. This lead to DS 8605-E being declared inoperable at 1600 hours0.0185 days <br />0.444 hours <br />0.00265 weeks <br />6.088e-4 months <br /> on January 30, 1979, which placed the unit in the Action Statement of Technical Specification 3.3.3.a. A fire watch patrol was established at that cime.

Designation of Apparent Cause of Occurrence: The failure of Photoelectric Detector DS 8605-E was the cause of the occurrence.

Analysis of Occurrence: The four other area photoelectric detectors in this open room are operable, and a fire watch patrol is being maintained in this area.

Corrective Action: A new detector has been ordered and will be. installed upon receipt at the site. It is expected to be delivered in eight to ten weeks. A fire watch patrol is being maintained in this area.

Failure Data: There have been no previously reported f ailures of photoelectric detectors.
