Dear Dr. Slaughter:

Aerotest Operations, Inc. (Aerotest) holds U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Facility Operating License No. R-98 for the operation of the Aerotest Radiography and Research Reactor (ARRR). By application dated February 28, 2005 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML13120A434), as supplemented by letters dated May 5, 2008 (ADAMS Accession No. ML103370137), March 9, 2009 (ADAMS Accession No. ML120900629), December 20, 2017 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML17363A303 and ML18045A571), and February 28, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18066A075), Aerotest applied for renewal of the ARRR operating license.

On April 24, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18088A701), the NRC staff sent Aerotest a letter enclosing requests for additional information (RAIs) identifying additional information needed for the NRC staff to continue its review of Aerotests renewal application. The NRC staffs April 24, 2018, letter requested that Aerotest provide responses to the RAIs within 90 days from the date of that letter (i.e., by July 23, 2018). By letter dated July 17, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18201A197), Aerotest requested an additional 60 days beyond the original deadline to respond to the NRC staffs April 24, 2018, letter. By letter dated July 23, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18198A451), the NRC staff granted Aerotests July 17, 2018, extension request, such that the new deadline would be September 21, 2018.

By letter dated September 11, 2018 (ADAMS Accession No. ML18257A075), Aerotest requested a second extension of the deadline to respond to the NRC staffs April 24, 2018, letter. Aerotest requested that the new deadline be 150 days beyond the original deadline in the NRC staffs April 24, 2018, letter.

The NRC staff accepts Aerotests second extension request dated September 11, 2018. The deadline to respond to the NRC staffs April 24, 2018, letter is now December 20, 2018.

D. Slaughter If you have any questions, or need additional time to respond to the NRC staffs original April 24, 2018, request please contact me at 301-415-4067, or by electronic mail at Edward.Helvenston@nrc.gov.
