NRC Standards Forum

Purpose:

Collaborate to Accelerate - Identify codes and standards that need to be developed that are not currently being developed in a timely manner by SDOs Identify process improvements to ensure effective and timely standards development Exchange information across disciplines and stakeholders regarding standards for nuclear facilities Encourage and provide an opportunity for engagement and networking amongst the standards development community Outcomes Identify key topics or processes that require actions.

Streamline topics list to avoid an unmanageable list of topics Stakeholder awareness of NRC priorities for codes and standards 3

Topics for Development Standards Forum topics combined with previous NESCC issues.

Actions Items 3,5,9 -

Presentations to Report Item Action Organization ANS proposed a 1st Q 2018 workshop for advanced reactors to focus on standard development.

3 Need TWG and SDO support. ANS/NRC NEI has developed a list of Standards they believe 5 should be worked on - will share with Forum NEI Feedback on the NRC activities to endorse ASME Section III, Division 5, versus participation on the 9 development of the Division 5 code. NRC 5

Action Items 6,7,10 Item Action Organization 6 ASME needs clarification of EPRI report ASME/EPRI on Powder Metallurgy and IHIP 7 EPRI and ANS to discuss making EPZ EPRI/ANS for SMR report public 8 ANS/DOE may have additional items to DOE add to NRC/NRO presentation list 10 ASME to provide SMR Roadmap to ASME TWGs for a historical approach.

Organizations completed these knowledge transfer items between themselves.

Action Item 2 - ORNL Gap Analysis Follow up The ORNL report was completed and disseminated to Forum participants.

NRC compiled list standards identified in ORNL gap report and by TWGs to be revised or developed. The list was shared with the 2017 Standards Forum Summary.

NRC exploring the possibility of a similar gap analysis for MSRs.
