High Energy Arcing Fault PRA Methodology Workshop Introduction of NRC Members on the Joint NRC/EPRI HEAF Working Group (WG)

May 17, 2023 MarkHenry Salley P.E Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research Rockville, MD

NRC/EPRI HEAF Working Group (WG) Charter Mission Statement To advance the state of knowledge and improve understanding of risk from electrical arcing fault hazards in nuclear power plants (NPPs).

Goal Statements Characterize the primary factors that influence the occurrence and severity of arcing fault events (arc flash, arc blast, or HEAF).

Develop a risk model for arcing fault events based on experimental data, operating experience, and engineering judgement.

Analyze the plant impact of and quantify the change in risk from arcing fault events involving copper and aluminum.

You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they dont play together, the club wont be worth a dime." - Babe Ruth "A group becomes a team when each member is sure enough of himself and his contribution to praise the skills of others."
